Sometimes, if a stucco finish has not been applied on the wall properly, even the stucco's durable surface can gain cracks or damage prematurely.

Stucco Repair
It is important to repair stucco as soon as the cracks or gouges have been spotted to prevent the damage from getting worse. Moisture can easily get into these cracks of the stucco and harm the mesh wire or the wall underneath the stucco.
Minor cracks in the surface of the stucco can be repaired by filling them in with stucco caulk. Small holes can be patched up with a stucco patching compound. Large areas might look reasonably restored with a thin layer of patching compound, but using stucco material could actually achieve a more flawless repair.

If the stucco finish is very old, it might be hard to get stucco material that will match and blend exactly with the undamaged areas. It can be an option to break down the area surrounding the damage, fill it in with new stucco, and apply a new coat of paint over both old and new stucco.

Major damages that would require too much repair material, or long vertical cracks running from the base of the wall, may indicate more serious problems like damaged mesh wire (within the stucco layers or the foundation). For these situations, the procedure to repair stucco might already require the services of a professional, or an entire overhaul of the stucco walls themselves.
